Kalshi Sports Markets Explained: Every League and Bet Type You Can Trade
Kalshi's sports coverage has expanded to the point where it functions as a full sportsbook alternative for a lot of traders, but the market structure is not documented anywhere in an obvious place. Series tickers are cryptic, coverage rotates with the seasons, and it is not always clear which markets support combos.
This is a working reference for what is actually tradeable, how the naming works, and where the liquidity sits.
Leagues and Sports Covered
Kalshi organizes sports markets into series, and each series covers one bet type for one league. Current coverage spans:
Major North American leagues
- MLB (regular season, playoffs)
- NFL (regular season, playoffs, preseason)
- NBA and WNBA
- NHL
Combat sports
- UFC and MMA
Golf
- PGA Tour events
Soccer
- MLS
- Liga MX
- Leagues Cup
- Club competitions and international tournaments
Motorsport
- Formula 1
- NASCAR
Tennis
- ATP and WTA main tour plus Challenger events
Esports
- League of Legends
- Counter-Strike 2
Bet Types
Within each league, Kalshi runs separate series for each kind of wager. The common ones:
| Bet type | What it resolves on | Typical series suffix |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Which team wins | GAME |
| Spread | Margin of victory | SPREAD |
| Total | Combined score over or under | TOTAL |
| Player props | Individual statistical thresholds | PTS, REB, AST, HR, KS |
| Situational | Specific in-game events | RFI, FIRSTTD, ANYTD |
Baseball gets some of the more unusual markets. KXMLBRFI resolves on whether a run scores in the first inning, which is a market type most sportsbooks bury if they offer it at all.
Football has deep prop coverage: KXNFLANYTD (any time touchdown scorer), KXNFLFIRSTTD (first touchdown scorer), and separate series for passing, rushing, and receiving yardage.
How Kalshi Sports Tickers Work
Once you understand the format, you can read any Kalshi sports ticker without looking it up.
The structure is:
SERIES-DATE+TIME+MATCHUP-OUTCOME
Take a real one:
KXMLBGAME-26JUL251605AZWSH-WSH
Breaking it apart:
| Segment | Meaning |
|---|---|
| KXMLBGAME | Series: MLB moneyline |
| 26JUL25 | Date: July 25, 2026 |
| 1605 | Scheduled start time, 16:05 UTC |
| AZWSH | Matchup: Arizona at Washington |
| WSH | This contract resolves YES if Washington wins |
Everything up to the final segment is the event ticker, which identifies the game. The final segment identifies which side of that event the specific contract represents. A single game produces two moneyline contracts, one for each team.
This matters practically because combo eligibility is defined at the event level, not the contract level. If a game's event ticker is in a combo collection, every contract under that event can be used as a combo leg.
What Is Live Right Now
Sports coverage rotates hard with the calendar, and this is the thing most guides skip. A series that shows hundreds of markets in one month can show zero in another.
Here is a snapshot of open markets and cumulative volume as of early August 2026:
| Series | Open markets | Volume | |---|---|---| | UFC fights | 46 | 1,471,472 | | MLB moneyline | 80 | 813,007 | | NFL moneyline | 64 | 700,126 | | Leagues Cup soccer | 93 | 531,448 | | League of Legends | 112 | 328,429 | | MLB spread | 90 | 276,398 | | WNBA moneyline | 18 | 240,777 | | MLB total | 165 | 218,278 | | WTA tennis | 8 | 152,305 | | ATP tennis | 10 | 150,815 | | MLB run in first inning | 40 | 142,364 |
Two things stand out.
UFC punches above its weight. With only 46 open markets, UFC leads everything in volume. Fight markets concentrate a lot of money into a small number of binary outcomes, which makes them among the most liquid sports contracts on the platform.
NBA is completely dark in August. All NBA and NBA prop series return zero open markets in the offseason, despite NBA having by far the largest combo footprint during the season. Same story for PGA between events, F1 and NASCAR between races, and most NFL props before the regular season opens.
If you are building a strategy around a specific league, check whether it is in season before assuming the markets exist.
Liquidity Reality Check
Volume distribution across sports markets is extremely uneven. A handful of series carry most of the money and the long tail is thin.
Practical implications:
Moneyline beats props on liquidity. Game-level markets consistently show more volume than player props in the same league. MLB moneyline runs several times the volume of MLB strikeout props.
Spreads on thin markets can be wide. A market showing a few hundred dollars of cumulative volume may have a spread of several cents between bid and ask, which eats a meaningful chunk of any edge.
Check volume before sizing. A market can be open and quoted while still being too thin to enter and exit at reasonable prices.
Combo Eligibility
Most sports markets on Kalshi support combos, which lets you bundle multiple contracts into a single position that pays only if every leg hits.
Combo eligibility is organized into collections, generally grouped around a game or event. You can combine a moneyline with a total and a prop from the same matchup, but not arbitrarily across unrelated events.
As of August 2026 there are roughly 1,389 combo collections covering about 11,773 combo-eligible event tickers. NBA carries the largest share during its season, followed by NFL and MLB.
We flag combo-eligible markets directly in our listings. On the markets page you can filter to combo-eligible markets only, and stack it with the Kalshi filter to see just Kalshi combos. Individual market pages include a parlay builder that pulls in the other legs available in the same collection and estimates combined odds and payout.

How Kalshi Sports Compares to a Sportsbook
A few structural differences worth understanding:
Pricing is a market, not a book. Kalshi contracts trade between users on an order book. Prices reflect what other traders will pay rather than a number set by an operator with a built-in margin.
You can exit before resolution. A sportsbook bet is generally locked until the game ends. A Kalshi contract can be sold back into the market at any time while it is open, which lets you take profit or cut losses mid-event.
Fee structure is different. Kalshi charges a trading fee that scales with contract price rather than embedding vig into the odds. That tends to favor the trader on longer multi-leg positions, though you should verify the total cost at confirmation.
Coverage is narrower. A major sportsbook lists far more props and exotic markets than Kalshi does. Kalshi's depth is improving but it is not comprehensive.

Quick Reference
If you are getting started with Kalshi sports markets:
- Check the season. Confirm your league is actually running before hunting for markets.
- Start with moneylines. They carry the most liquidity and the tightest spreads.
- Read the ticker. Series, date, matchup, outcome. It tells you everything about the contract.
- Verify volume before sizing. Open does not mean liquid.
- Use combos deliberately. They are useful for correlated views, not for inflating payouts.
You can browse everything we track, with live cross-exchange pricing, on the markets page. Sports markets are filterable by category, and combo-eligible contracts are flagged so you can find parlay legs quickly.
